Fourth Conference of PhD Students and Young Scientists came to an end. We are very pleased to notice that the initiative of PhD Students Boards of Warsaw University of Technology expands with every year, both in substantive and organizational issues. This year the number of participants reached almost a hundred, representing 25 technical colleges, universities and research institutes. Nearly two-thirds of them were PhD students or young scientists from outside of Warsaw University of Technical and almost a quarter were from foreign countries.

A significant change in this year’s edition was expand of international thought exchang, thus the introduction of English as the official language of all allocutions and presentations. There was a new thematic session entitled Social Sciences in technology, dedicated to issues such as management, economics and law in relation to new technologies. Another innovation was poster session, which was suggested by the participants in previous editions.

This year's Conference was inaugurated by Professor Bozenna Pasik-Duncan, University of Kansas, with a lecture The Beauty of a Field that spans Science and Engineering. As in previous years, the Conference lasted three days and consisted of fifteen thematic sessions, where at the end of the Conference at least one lecture was honoured with a diploma in each one of them. At the closing ceremony the best papers and posters were awarded with prizes funded by the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Region, The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, Polish Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and IEEE Poland Section.

Again, we would like to thank everyone for participating in the Conference - PhD students and young scientists, guests, and Warsaw University of Technology faculty members, who chaired the sessions and devoted their time to the Scientific Board and reviewing sent papers. Last but not least, we would like to express our gratitude to the Honorary, Institutional and Media Patrons and to our sponsors - Aries Power Equipment Poland and Asseco Poland as well as University Authorities, without whose support the finalization of such a large project would not be possible.

We will be very pleased to see you and your colleagues at the Fifth Conference of PhD Students and Young Scientists that we have already started preparations for.  As previously, it will be held in September at Warsaw University of Technology. Soon details of the 2010 edition will be posted on our web.
